Established in 1979, owner Karen Essary has 35 years of professional sewing experience, serving clients, decorators and corporate businesses from southeast Michigan, northwest Ohio and beyond.

Karen’s top priority is building a trusting relationship with each client or designer based on excellent service, attention to details, highest quality workmanship and extensive knowledge of current trends and products. Along with her many years of experience, this status as an industry professional is continually enhanced by attending training seminars, certification programs, and being involved in membership affiliations such as Window Coverings Association of America, WFCP (Window Fashions Certification Program), Home Builders Association of Monroe County, WEN (Women's Entrepreneurial Network)and Exciting Windows. Karen is also a certified Hunter Douglas Professional Installer.

Sally A. Binion has joined Couture by Karen as Window Treatment Designer and Sales Consultant. Sally has 20 years experience in window treatment design from her former company “Window Creations” and most recently as a design and sales consultant at McLaughlin’s Home Furnishings. Sally is available for in-home consultations and will provide you with one-of-a-kind solutions that will compliment and enhance your individual lifestyle.

Karen took 1st place - Specialty Windows at the 2011 Envision Design Competition for her "out of the box" idea camouflaging an odd space wall while providing light control, privacy, and a beautiful design. Karen's award winning design is featured in the May / June 2011 issue of Window Fashion Vision magazine.

Karen Essary took 2nd place honors in Window Fashions 2007 Ingenuity Workroom Competition for an outstanding silk panel treatment made for C'est la Vie Interiors and featured in Dick Brighton Builders Inc., 2006 Home Tour Entry. Her winning treatment was also published in the May 2007 issue of Window Fashions Design & Education Magazine. In addition, Couture by Karen has won several awards for original design of window treatments and pillows at the Custom Home Furnishings Educational Conference and Trade Show.
